Chinese paintings from Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) of some ancient “beauties” in their daily livings.
The artworks were painted on folding screens (184cm x 98cm) and are currently stored in Beijing’s Palace Museum.

PARIS - La Maison de Ventes Thierry de Maigret totalisait un produit vendu de 6 203 900 € frais compris pour cette vacation dédiée aux Arts d'Asie mercredi 19 juin 2013 à l'Hôtel Drouot.
Le programme d'enchères a été marqué par un rare ensemble de 53 peintures provenant d'une très ancienne collection, constituée dès le début du XXe siècle. L'ensemble très attendu, non seulement par les collectionneurs français, mais également internationaux, comme en témoignait l'assistance de la salle, a été adjugé 5 310 500 frais inclus. La plus haute enchère s'est portée sur une peinture en hauteur à l'encre et polychromie sur soie adjugée 4 647 000 € frais inclus. Deux éléments remarquables sont à noter pour cette rare peinture qui daterait de l'époque Tang (VIIIe siècle) ; d'une part le sujet, puisqu'il représente une figure historique de l'histoire chinoise : l'impératrice Wu Zeitan, unique impératrice chinoise ; d'autre part, par la présence des cachets du célèbre collectionneur Zhan Heng (1915-1963), issu d'une grande famille de collectionneurs et conservateur à la Cité Interdite. Il s'agit de la plus haute enchère enregistré depuis le début de l'année. (Lot n° 191)

Il ouvre à six tiroirs en caissons sur trois rangs séparés par des traverses et un tiroir en ceinture surmontant un vantail en retrait. Il repose sur huit pieds réunis quatre à quatre par deux entretoises en X. Les montants à pans en décrochement. Le plateau marqueté est cerné d’une lingotière en bronze ciselé et doréà décor de palmettes et feuilles d’acanthe. H 76, L 84, P 55,5 cm. (Restaurations d’usage). Estimation : 55 000 / 65 000 €

Nicolas Sageot (1666-1731), reçu maître en 1706. Nicolas Sageot débute son activité comme ouvrier libre dans le faubourg Saint Antoine puis fait enregistrer ses lettres de maîtrise en 1706.
Il connait, à partir de cette époque, une grande notoriété et devient l’un des principaux concurrents d’André Charles Boulle.
Le talent de Nicolas Sageot s’illustre particulièrement dans la création de bureaux à caissons richement marquetés. Son travail est très largement inspiré par l’œuvre de Jean Berain, Dessinateur des Menus Plaisirs du Roi qui développe un répertoire ornemental d’une grande richesse, ce qui permet à Nicolas Sageot de varier ses compositions.
Le décor du présent bureau est, ainsi, different de celui conservé au Petit Palais de Paris ou encore celui du musée de l’Ermitage à Saint Petersbourg. Nicolas Sageot révèle ainsi toutes les facettes de l’esthétique louis-quatorzienne incarnée par Jean Berain.
