Cabinet en marqueterie de bois teintéà décor floral. Il ouvre en façade par une série de tiroirs et faux tiroirs, et par deux portes qui découvrent un théâtre à fond de glace. Il est surmonté d'une galerie de miroirs et de demi-balustres avec un léger ressaut central. Le piètement à colonnes est relié par une entretoise, et en ceinture par des arcatures décorées reprenant le même décor. H: 174,5 L: 113,1 P: 45,3 cm. Estimation : 150 000 - 180 000 €

Le règne de Louis XIV voit l'essor de la marqueterie comme méthode de finition du mobilier d'ébénisterie. Les ébénistes "parisiens", en réalité parfois flamands, comme Gole ou Boulle, ou italiens comme Cucci, vont l'imposer durant près de trois siècles. Le support d'ébène, aux sculptures sombres, en faveur sous Louis XIII, est conservé pour les cabinets, mais enrichi d'une polychromie chatoyante où se côtoient bois teintés, pierres dures et métaux polis. 
À l'instar de l'architecture, la façade est rythmée par des volumes en saillie et en retrait. Ces pièces restent les monuments les plus importants des grandes demeures du début de l'Age classique. L'inventaire de Mazarin, en 1653, en dénombre vingt-deux. Le Cardinal avait transmis ce goût à son filleul : quarante-six livraisons sont répertoriées par le Garde-Meuble de la Couronne jusqu'en 1688.

De ces meubles extraordinaires, il est difficile de donner une provenance nominale. La qualité de notre cabinet, qui correspond à celle des travaux des grands ateliers parisiens, est la preuve qu'il a fait autrefois l'ornement du Salon d'une "précieuse". On peut penser à Madame de Sévigné, à Madame de Gunegaud ou à Mademoiselle Scudery tout autant qu'à leurs "amants". Mais l'absence de marque d'inventaire, rarissime, ne permet pas d'aller au delà : Son "théâtre" avec son décor de glace devait abriter une statuette, évocation savante et amusante de son propriétaire.

Dans des bordures de marbre noir rehaussé d'un large filet blanc, deux scènes de chasse avec des chiens, en polychromie de pierres dures, avec, sur le collier, des dogues un monogramme « CH ». Ils sont encadrés dans des baguettes feuillagées de bronze doré. H: 27,8; L: 22 cm. Estimation : 35 000 - 40 000 €

Les ateliers grands-ducaux, installés à Florence par les Médicis dès le XVI° siècle, élaborèrent une technique de taille et de marqueterie de pierres dures, qui, quoique jalousement gardés, essaimèrent dans l'Empire des Habsbourg, notamment à la Cour de Rodolphe II (1552- 1612), à Prague. Ce dernier, grand collectionneur et mécène, appréciait particulièrement ce goût « baroque » (du nom que les portugais donnaient à des perles un peu difformes) pour le travestissement: ainsi Archimboldo peint-il des portraits des saisons avec des fleurs et des fruits (vers 1590). On accorde aux couleurs, aux odeurs ou aux éléments des vertus ou des fonctions et des vertus, selon leur « complexion » d'après la physique d'Aristote... Ces jeux des formes, autant que de la matière, constituaient pour les Curieux, avec les joyaux taillés, les fleurons de leur cabinet ou de leur Schatzkammer ou Kunstkammer. Parmi eux, les compositions en pierres dures, les commessi, imitaient l'effet des peintures. Exécutées d'abord comme des tableaux indépendants, elles étaient intégrées par la suite dans des décors de mobilier, particulièrement dans des grands cabinets comme ceux que Cucci réalisa pour Louis XIV. Les scènes de chasse sont reprises des grandes oeuvres des peintres du Nord, autour de Rubens ou Snyders, qui décoraient nombre de palais allemands. Le monogramme au collier des chiens indique davantage un propriétaire qu'il n'est une signature d'artiste: « CH », peut-être pour Charles (II) de Habsbourg (1540-1590), troisième fils de Ferdinand Ier, et neveu de Charles Quint, ou pour son fils Charles de Habsbourg-Styrie (1590-1624), prince-évêque de Breslau et Grand Maître de l'Ordre teutonique
