Of cylindrical form, incised on the exterior with two alternating-wave bands that form a border to the depiction of attendants with fans and folded umbrellas surrounding a high official speaking to another figure in traveling clothes standing in front of his horse and waiting servant, the celadon-tinged glaze stopping along the canted edge of the flat and unglazed base.  8 1/2in (21.5cm) high

Formed with a flared rim to the trumpet neck and body of inverted pear form spreading outward above the set-in foot, painted with a diamond diaper ground surrounding eight ogival reserves with depictions of the Eight Immortals, the recessed base painted with a double ring and all surfaces except the foot ring covered with glaze. 17 7/8in (45.5cm) high

Thinly potted with a flared rim to the wide, curving well and raised on a tall conical foot, the fabric on the interior delicately molded with alternating lotus flowers and siddham roundels issuing from interlocked strap-work scrolls, the floor of the well painted in underglaze blue with a lotus and tendril roundel that repeats in a fluid pattern on the exterior walls, the lustrous glaze covering all surfaces except the foot pad and burnt russet brown where thin along the rim. 5 3/4in (14.5cm) diameter. 3 7/8in (9.8cm) high

NoteFor two similarly shaped cups with underglaze blue and anhua decoration, each ascribed to the Kangxi period, see the Southeast Asian Ceramics exhibition, Chinese Blue & White Ceramics, 1978, pp. 232-33: no. 265 with similar russet-burnt firing ring (13cm high); no. 266 with unidentified anhua decoration on the interior (11cm high) but with arabesque scrolls painted on the exterior walls similar to the anhua decoration that appears on the interior walls of this lot.

Painted in a combination of outline, wash and dotting with a lingzhi fungus band below the rim and a peony medallion centering the floor of the well while branches of peach, pomegranate and Buddha's hand citron (the Three Abundances) appear on the exterior walls between a dense leaf and flower head band at the rim and a jeweled lappet band rising from the tall foot, the lustrous glaze covering all surfaces except the pad of the tall foot ring. 7 3/4in (19.8cm) diameter

The near pair decorated in gradated hues of deep cobalt blue, surmounted by domical lids displaying two boys holding a wrapped zither (qin) and a lotus leaf, atop shoulders displaying wide and ornate ruyi-lappet bands of vine and lotus motifs above detailed continuous figural tableaux of scholar/officials accompanied by beauties and attendants within elaborate interior and exterior settings, the recessed clear glazed bases unmarked and centered by a double ring. 14in (35.5cm) high

Of elongated ovoid form, its thick walls painted in bright cobalt hues with floral cartouches and clouds at the waisted neck, cranes in clouds along the rounded shoulder and a continuous garden setting around the body peopled with two boys playing a board game observed by a seated scholar and standing scholar nearby summoning his young attendant, all above an overlapping flower petal band along the flared rim, the celadon-tinged glaze covering all surfaces except the wide foot pad and recessed base. 15 3/4in (40cm) high

Décor en relief de feuillages finement sculptés débordant à l'intérieur, de branches de pin, certaines détachées et entrelacées formant l'anse.  Quatre personnages dans le décor, lettrés, un sage cherchant à monter sur un cheval. Un petit manque dans le décor. H. : 11,5 cm. Poids : 470 gr.

Décor en relief profondément sculpté débordant à l'intérieur de branches de pin, certaines à une section détachée entrelacées formant l'anse. Dans les feuillages des arbres, un sujet lettré penché sur une terrasse bavardant avec un autre sujet lettré. Manque sur le bord près de l'anse. H. : 13 cm. Poids : 380 gr.

The deeply hollowed clear stone carved on one side with the God of Longevity floating on a cloud scroll and holding aloft a branch of fruiting peach and on the other with the Queen Mother of the West standing on a flying long-tailed phoenix also holding up a peach branch, the vase carved supported around the base with reticulated leafy branches issuing peaches incised with stars, the two handles each formed as a mythical beast head suspending a loose ring and the cover surmounted by a coiling bearded chilong. 13 1/4in (33.6cm) high

Constructed with a pair of rectangular lug handles on the thick rim extending over a waisted neck and a compressed globular body raised on three short feet, the remains of spur marks on the interior and the flat base visible within the glaze layer of pale creamy-brown hue filled with a dense web of russet-stained craze lines, the glaze covering all surfaces except the foot pads where the gray body is revealed within the russet burn. 5in (12.3cm) diameter

Provenance: a Japanese private collection, the old paper label on the base inscribed in Japanese Yamanaka Shokai

Finely finished with a wide curving well raised on a tall, tapered foot, the exterior walls delicately incised with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl, the deeply recessed base displaying the mark in underglaze blue regular script and all surfaces except the narrow foot pad covered with the lustrous, celadon-tinged glaze. 6 1/4in (15.8cm) diameter

Provenanceby repute, purchased in Tokyo in 1952
