the large rounded body rising from a short straight foot to a tall waisted neck and flared rim, set with a short bulbous spout, painted with a continuous design of a scholar and a lady accompanied by attendants, beside a an old man leaning against a sedan chair in a fenced garden, the neck decorated with prunus and bamboo, all divided by bands of ruyi heads, the rim dressed in brown; 32 cm, 12 1/2  in.

Set with an oval-cut sapphire, weighing approximately 20.38 carats, and circular-cut diamond twin surround cluster, between pear-shaped diamond shoulders, ring size 5 ½, mounted in platinum and gold, in blue leather Harry Winston case. Unsigned

Accompanied by report no. 16010179 dated 5 February 2016 from the Gübelin GemLab stating that the origin of the sapphire is Burma (Myanmar), with no indications of heating, and an Information Sheet on 'Unheated sapphires',and that the colour may also be called 'Royal Blue'.

Further accompanied by copy of an invoice dated 23 November 1990 from Harry Winston.

Pâte siliceuse à décor bleu, blanc et turquoise sous glaçure incolore transparente. Hauteur : 8,8 ; Diamètre : 19,5 cm. Ce bol en céramique siliceuse en bleu, blanc et turquoise, est un exemple rare des premières productions de céramiques bleu-blanc Iznik utilisant la couleur turquoise. Cette couleur apparaît aux environs de 1520. Le bord extérieur est décoré de rinceaux fleuris. (Accidents et manques visibles) 

Un bol très proche utilisant le même décor de cyprès et de bouquets, lui aussi fragmentaire, est conservé dans les collections du Victoria and Albert Museum de Londres (Inv.201-1892).

Accompanied by report no. 16025274 dated 23 February 2016 from the Gübelin GemLab stating that the origin of the sapphire is Burma (Myanmar), with no indications of heating, and an Information Sheet on 'Unheated sapphires'.

Report no. CS1073479 dated 16 February 2016 from the AGL American Gemological Laboratories stating that the origin of the sapphire is Burma (Myanmar), with no gemological evidence of heat and no clarity enhancement.

en porcelaine dure des fours de Zhangzhou, décoré en bleu sous glaçure craquelée transparente de deux dragons au médaillon central, entouré de cinq chevaux au galop. Marli à médaillons alternés, l'un d'un personnage marchant, l'autre de la phrase en arabe "Allahu 'âfi" (avec l'aide de Dieu). Diam. 41 cm. (Restauration sur un bord)

Notre plat est fortement influencé par certains plats d'Iznik vers 1520-1535, eux-mêmes influencés par des plats Ming, du début du 15e siècle.

Accompanied by report no. 85369 dated 31 March 2016 from the SSEF Swiss Gemmological Institute stating that the origin of the sapphire is Kashmir, with no indications of heating, and that the colour may also be called 'Royal Blue' .

Report no. 0802068 dated 12 February 2008 from the Gübelin GemLab stating that the origin of the sapphire is Kashmir, with no indications of heating.

The deep bowl is moulded to the centre with a double fsh medallion encircled by panels enclosing various named characters from the Chinese play “The Tale of the Pipa” including the equestrian scholar Cai Bojie and the oficial Niu. 7 in. (17.7 cm.) diam.

Provenance: Property from a Private American Collection, assembled prior to 1960. 

Note: This bowl illustrates characters drawn from the Southern-style Chinese play written by Gao Ming in the early Ming dynasty (1368-1644) including the scholar Cai Bojie and the oficial Niu who are both named on this bowl.

Two related bowls are illustrated in Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, Jessica Harrison-Hall, 2001, pp 482 & 483, nos. 16:52 and 16:53.

The lotus-form cup is supported on three low feet and decorated to the exterior with veins in low relief, a standing figure of Shoulao with underglaze blue robes can be seen emerging from the centre. 4 3/8 in. (11 cm.) diam.

The vase is delicately enamelled with figures within a rural and mountainous river landscape. Parts of the tree foliage decorated in sepia tones. The reverse with two sampans moored at the river's edge. The base has an apocryphal Qianlong four-character mark. 5 1/8 in. (13 cm.) high.

he central plaque decorated with a pierced and millegrain-set articulated plaque of foliate design set with circular-cut and rose diamonds, supporting three slightly baroque button shaped natural pearls measuring approximately 9.05 x 9.15 x 7.45mm, 9.70 x 10.60 x 8.70mm and 9.10 x 9.50 x 7.65mm, to a later collar composed of ten rows of natural and cultured pearls, length approximately 350mm, signed Cartier. 

Originally the diamond plaques de cou were set by Cartier on a black velvet ribbon.

NoteAccompanied by SSEF report no. 84951, stating that four hundred and twenty-two pearl were found to be natural, saltwater, and sixty-eight were found to be cultured.

With shallow rounded sides, freely painted in shaded tones of cobalt blue reserved on a rich yellow ground, the interior with a central medallion depicting a single leafy branch bearing two five-petalled gardenia blooms and a bud emerging from the top, encircled on the cavetto by fruiting branches of pomegranate, grape, peach and a beribboned lotus bouquet, all between double line borders, the underside with a continuous scroll of blooming peonies between double lines at the rim and foot, the recessed base with a six-character reign mark within a double circle. 19.8cm (7 7/8in) diam.

NotesDishes depicting gardenia designs in cobalt blue on a yellow ground were produced from the Xuande through to the Jiajing reigns. Examples dating to the Zhengde period, however, are very rare. Highly regarded for its auspicious symbolism underscoring wishes for honour and happiness, the gardenia is combined with peaches and grapes; both symbolic of longevity, lotus and pomegranate, conveying the wish for fertility; and peonies, symbolic for wealth and happiness.

A closely related dish is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum: Blue and White Porcelain with Underglaze Red, Hong Kong, 2000, pl.23. Another is included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, accession no. 19.28.10; see also from the Percival David Collection of Chinese Art, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics. The World's Great Collections, New York, 1983, vol. 5, pl. 187; another was included in the exhibition, Born of Earth and Fire, Chinese Ceramics from the Scheinman Collection, The Baltimore Museum of Art, 1992, no.81; one is illustrated by R.Krahl, Chinese Ceramics From The Meiyintang Collection, london, 1994, vol.2, no.681. A similar dish was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 28 November 2012, lot 2209.

The deep sides rising from a slightly tapered foot, the exterior finely painted in dark blue tones with a band of elongated lotus petals below a keyfret band around the rim, the interior with a central spray of fruiting loquat within double circles, surrounded by leafy scrolls of alternating blossoming camellias and chrysanthemum flowerheads below a band of breaking waves at the rim, the deep tones of cobalt containing extensive 'heaping and piling', fitted box. 20.8cm (8 2/8in) diam. (2).
