of slightly compressed ovoid form, carved with four quatrefoil panels enclosing peonies divided by swirling designs, all above faint lines radiating from the flared foot, the cover similarly decorated with a bud finial (2). Height 4 5/8 in., 12.3 cm. Estimate 25,000 — 30,000 USD

A similar waterpot found at a Yue kiln site in Yuyao, is published in Kaogu xuebao, no. 3, 1959, pl. 7:10. Two other similar jars, but without their covers, in the Shanghai Museum and dated to the 10th century is published in Wang Qingzheng, Yueyao, Miseci, Shanghai, 1996, pls. 58 & 59. Another waterpot, of similar form, but with different decoration and with its cover, in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, ibid. no. 50.
