Important blue and white Guan vase. China, Ming dynasty. Photo AUKTIONSHAUS KAUPP GMBH
Porcelain, painted in underglaze blue. Unmarked. Firing cracks. Estimation : 50 000 €
This large blue and white vase is a representative example of a refined figure painting in the second half of the 15th Century. In addition to the classical floral decors and the use of symbols we can now find depictions of wide landscape panoramas with staffage figures in a narrative style that are taken from traditional literature and popular dramas. Compositionally, these scenes are comparable to the scroll paintings of the early Ming period.
