A Belle Époque diamond single-stone ring, circa 1910. Estimate £30,000 - 50,000 '€41,000 - 68,000).  Photo: Bonhams.

The old hexagonal-cut diamond, weighing 8.18 carats, within a delicatedly pierced platinum mount millegrain-set with old brilliant and single-cut diamonds, the reeded hoop with further engraved decoration, ring size M½, cased

Note: This unusual hexagonally-cut diamond is a variety of the 'stellar brilliant-cut', which can be traced back to the early 17th century. This particular diamond is notable for its hexagonal culet (bottom facet), around which radiate six facets forming a star. Hexagonal-cuts came into vogue during the first half of the 20th century as a popular choice for engagement rings.
